Welcome to MAY DAZE! This blog will give you a taste of my writing through a series of mini-memoirs. You don’t get this far in life without learning a thing or two, so the blog will follow the theme of ‘Things I’ve learned’ from various people, situations and animals. Things I Learned From My Dad will be the first post.
MAY DAZE is dedicated to my dad, Jack May. His love of literature and penchant for writing inspired me to take my thoughts (however dazed and confused) and turn them into stories. Sadly, he died before any of my work was published, so this is my way of showing him how proud I am to share his name.
For over thirty years, I lived my life as Jacquie MAY, a surname that traveled from Germany with my great grandfather, down the line to my father. Dad would be the last May on this branch of the family tree (having had two daughters) and although his genes live on, his name would not make it to the next generation. Dad never complained, but I know he would have liked to see his name live on, so…
If I’m going to make a name for myself as a writer, I want that name to include the one given to me by my father—thus MAY DAZE, a blog by Jacquie MAY Miller.
